Project 4 - Building Homes in Peru
The Texas Group of Builders:
In November 2006, Kyle Jordan, of Living Word Lutheran in Katy, Tx., completed his requirements for "Eagle Scout." He earned this award by building a new house for children and adults in Isolina, Peru to attend church functions at the site where the new house was constructed. Enma and Thomas (in the center photo below) will happily provide assistance by being the "care-takers" of the new construction. The photos below are of the house and site before and after construction took place. The pre-existing house was made of thatch walls and scraps of cardboard/plastic for a roof. The old house was removed and a pre-fabricated wooden building with windows and a concrete-fiber roof was provided as replacement.
As a "Go-by" or "Cook-book" for future projects of this type, we offer the steps that were needed for construction and approximate costs as on November 2006. Click here for the How-to Cook-Book.

The Florida Group of Builders:
Our brothers and sisers of Shepard of the Woods Lutheran Church (SotW) in Jacksonville, FL have been doing the same thing. Click here to view some of their efforts to improve the lives of those in Peru. They (SotW) work as a "Mentor" church to Emaus Lutheran Church in Lima.
